With spring comes camping.
Plans are already being made. Our first trip is scheduled for mid-May, but friends of ours are looking to get their rigs on the road as early as April. We were asked to join them but the ground in front of our pole barn is too soft to risk pulling the camper out of storage that early, so we declined.
We have a number of people that we camp with throughout the season. Our boys. My dad. Ken's sister and brother-in-law. My sister and her kids. My brother, sister-in-law, their kids, and my sister-in-law's extended family. A number of friends. The group compositions change from weekend to weekend, month to month, and year to year.
Take this year, for example, it's a pretty safe bet that we won't be camping at all with the best friends this season. They sold their motor home last year don't seem intent on replacing it anytime soon. Instead, they're heading off to Yellowstone and the Badlands National Park (they are going to love it!).
My dad will go twice this year: Memorial weekend and over the 4th of July vacation. The rest of his year will be spent at his little cabin in Baldwin. I imagine it won't be long before he decides camping is just too much work and he opts out of pulling his fifth wheel altogether. Hopefully not anytime soon, though, as I love camping with my dad.
Ken's sister and brother-in-law also tend to camp only over major holiday weekends. They own a beautiful boat and have a slip at one of the marinas on Lake St. Clair. Their summers are pretty much spent on the water instead of in the woods. We'll likely join them at least once, most likely during Raft Off.
Ken and I will likely end up camping a few times by ourselves, but not often. We'll likely end up camping with one set of friends or another throughout the summer. I'll try to remember to share some of those adventures as they happen!
