I wish I could say I did it. I wish I could say that I met my goal and completed the rough draft of my novel.
I can't.
Although I started out strong and definitely made progress, I fizzled. School started for both me and the kidlets. I started exercising on a regular basis (I know! The shock!). Of course this meant that something had to give. Unfortunately, it happened to be my writing. I lost lunch hours to homework. I lost evenings to exercise, helping the kids with their homework, or inept housecleaning (seriously..my house is a wreck).
Only recently have I been regaining momentum. After I finished reading the last few pages of my reading assignment on my lunch hour, I pulled out the WIP and actually managed to get a couple hundred words.
At the end of the 70 Days of Sweat my WIP total word count is 61,086. This means I gained a total of 23,424 words. It's better than nothing, but I really wanted to get my 60K or more. I wanted to finish my rough draft.
I am disappointed in myself.

Do not be to hard on yourself, once you get a system down with the kids, school, exercise; you will complete your book draft in no time.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Tammy. A vote of confidence is always appreciated.
ReplyDeleteThose are legitimate reasons to give up writing time! It's not like you said, "The new season of Lost started, so I can't write" or something to that effect -- you have obligations that have to take a higher priority. Don't beat yourself up for being responsible.
ReplyDeleteI know, I know. Still it would be nice to get the rough draft done. I really want this Christmas present to be all shiny and pretty in time for holiday.
ReplyDeleteMind you...this was supposed to be last year's Christmas present for my sister-in-law. So it's already several months overdue.
Well, if it's any consolation, I told my sister I'd draw her a picture for Christmas about three years ago, and it's still incomplete. You're not that far overdue by comparison.
ReplyDeleteYour only human. Things happen. You are a responsable enough that you can pick up right where you left off, and you are creative enough to not lose the story.
ReplyDeleteDo not be disappointed. You wrote over 23,000 words in about 2 months. That's about 23,000 more than most people write in a lifetime. The Challenge was more about getting a kickstart and being comitted than a number. Don't get hung up on the word count. And do not downplay your progress. Keep the momentum going and keep writing!
