No rain, no snow.  Instead, we had moderate temperatures and clear skies.  A light jacket was enough to keep the chill off.  



Before walking around town, though, we made a detour to Grandma &amp; Grandpa's house.  For the first time I can remember, both boys let me paint their faces. It was a miserable September and it's been an even worse October, which pretty much made it impossible for me to feel any desire when it came time to decorate my house for Halloween.  So much so, that we didn't even carve pumpkins this year.

And that means, I'm reading for fun again.  I can't tell you how much I enjoy selecting my own reading material.  Since the end of class, I've already devoured the first book in George R. R. Martin's epic fantasy series, Song of Ice and Fire.

This indoor water park is about three hours away from home.  On the way "up north" we hit a white-out, as in a blizzard.  It was insanely scary thanks to the semi trucks that seemed oblivious to the dangerous slush accumulating on the roads. Morons.  I'm amazed there wasn't an accident.

In a lot of ways Reservation Blues reminded me of Gabriel Garcia Marquez's One Hundred Years of Solitude.  Repeatedly I found myself thinking of the similarity in technique, the blending or bending of time and space. It's been a long time since I've read anything set in the Pern universe.  Oh, how I missed those dragons and their little Pernese brethren.  



This particular book is Todd McCaffrey's first solo foray into the Pern his mother created.
